Firsthand
Many from Vietnam and other Asian countries as well as the Middle East and Africa live here. Asian and Middle Eastern stores and restaurants are located in this area.

One friendly gentleman from India informed us he had been living in the ‘hood for over 25 years. He seemed to know everyone coming in and out of the building and considered it a good community to live in. Others had less positive perspectives.

The Landscape
This patch consists of two highrises just outside the city core and within walking distance to many amenities. The Betty Brooks Community Centre is within the patch. There are lots of resources here, including Circle of Friends ESL for newcomers. Two parks are located nearby as well.

The People

• population is almost three times as dense as the rest of Hamilton
• 22% of families are single-parent
• median family gross income: $36,638, compared with $71,989 for the rest of Hamilton
• 50% of the population are immigrants
• unemployment rate is 11.9%, compared with 6% for the rest of Hamilton
• 43% of the population are visible minorities: South Asian, Black, Southeast Asian, Latin American, Chinese
• 63% of students at the nearby school need ESL, 24% have special needs
